Using a QR code is quick and simple. Whether you need to visit a website, open a menu, or connect to Wi-Fi, the process takes just a few seconds using your smartphone’s built-in camera. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Here is how to scan a QR code:
1. Using Your Smartphone Camera
- Open the Camera: Open your phone’s default Camera app from your home screen, lock screen, or control center.
- Point and Center: Hold your phone steady and point the camera at the QR code so that it is clearly visible in the frame.
- Tap the Link: Once your phone recognizes the code, a pop-up banner or notification will appear on your screen with the linked details. Tap that notification to open the website or application. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]
2. Using Built-In Scanners
If you are having trouble with your main camera or are using a specific device, you can use these built-in alternatives:
- On iPhone/iPad: Swipe down to open your Control Center and tap the Scan Code button. (If you don’t see it, go to Settings > Control Center and add “Scan Code” to your included controls). [1]
- On Android: Swipe down from the top of your screen to access your Quick Settings panel and tap the QR Scanner tile. Alternatively, you can open the Google app and tap the Google Lens camera icon in the search bar. [1, 2]
3. Scanning a Code Already on Your Phone
If a QR code is sent to you in an email or text message, you cannot use your camera to scan it. [1]
On Android: Take a screenshot and tap the lens icon in your screenshot preview to scan it directly.
On iOS: Take a screenshot of the code, open it in your Photos app, and press and hold on the QR code. A menu will appear with the embedded link.
